Editorial Policy

This policy describes how the content on Bilbao Museums Guide is researched, written, reviewed and corrected.

1. Purpose and independence

Our purpose is to provide clear, useful orientation for visitors to the museums of Bilbao. We are editorially independent. We receive no compensation for coverage, and no institution has any influence over what we publish.

2. How content is sourced

We base our descriptions on publicly available material, on published museum information, and on our own visits and observations where possible. Where a detail is uncertain, we prefer to say so rather than assert it.

3. Accuracy and review

Pages are reviewed periodically, and we give priority to material that changes often, such as opening arrangements and accessibility. When we learn that a statement is out of date, we correct or qualify it.

4. Corrections

Readers are invited to send corrections through the contact page. We consider every message and make changes where the evidence supports them.

5. Language and tone

We write plainly and avoid promotional language. We describe institutions as we find them, including their limitations, because a reference that only praises is of little use.

6. Commercial relationships

We receive no compensation for coverage and run no advertising that influences editorial decisions. Any future commercial arrangement would be disclosed clearly and separately from editorial content.

7. Images and credit

Images are used under their stated licences, with credit to their authors. We do not present the work of others as our own.

8. Independence from institutions

We are not affiliated with any museum, foundation or public body, as explained further in our Disclaimer and Legal Notice. Our duty is to the reader.

9. Reader trust

An independent reference is worth only as much as the trust placed in it, and trust is built slowly by admitting limits. We would rather publish a shorter page that is accurate than a longer one that is not, and we would rather say that a detail is uncertain than guess at it. Where a reader shows us that we have got something wrong, we treat the correction as a contribution to the project rather than a complaint about it.

We also keep our pages legible: clear headings, short paragraphs, and language that a visitor can follow without specialised knowledge. If a page fails that test, we consider it a fault to be fixed, not a matter of taste.
